BEYA Gears Up for 2011 Conference
Titled “Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Global Competitiveness Conference,” the annual event, celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, will be held in Washington, D.C. from February 17th through the 19th. The Marriot Wardman Park Hotel on Connecticut Avenue in D.C’s “Northwest” quadrant is hosting the conference.
This year’s Black Engineer of the Year award recipient is Lloyd W. Howell, Executive Vice President at Booz Allen Hamilton. Dr. Victor McCrary, Business Area Executive at Johns Hopkins University’s Applied Physics Laboratory will accept the Scientist of the Year Award.
Highlights of this year’s gathering include a welcome reception on the opening night and \the Modern Day Technology Leaders Luncheon on Friday. There will also be professional development seminars and the popular Career Coaching Roundtables. The Sixth Annual Stars and Stripes Military Dinner celebration hosted by U.S. Navy will close the day on Friday.
On Saturday, engineering deans from Historically Black Colleges and Universities’ (HBCU) will host their annual HBCU Power Breakfast.
Aspring engineers and others seeking new professional opportunities can attend the career fair, also on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Organizers expect recruiters from Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Gulfstream, Chrysler, IBM, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon and other companies to be on site.
On the evening of the 19th, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., the conference hosts the 25th Black Engineer of the Year Awards black tie gala.
